It takes several years, the schooling is short, 6 months or so. But then you have to work for years (it is counted for every hour worked) as an apprentice. Unless you already know one willing to apprentice you there is no chance at all of you getting into this profession. You can not get in without the apprenticeship and few will apprentice anyone at all, let alone a stranger.
